Loved this series. I have already bought the third book in the series. Loved the characters. It continues to be an upstairs downstairs type of novel. Problems come to both classes. I love the historical information. It amazes me that the concerns of pre-World War One are still being played out in today's society with the same old methods. One thing learned is good and evil are in all classes. There is a saying "conservatives believe everyone is equal but not everyone is good - while liberals believe everyone is not equal but everyone is good.". Historical stories like this can make you think about people and their motives. This was a good book. Highly recommended. Other excellent historical writers are: William Jarvis, Eric Larsen, Laurie Graham, Mary Gibson, Jane Kirkpatrick, Lynn Austin, Margaret Mayhew, and Duncan Barrett. This book and series deserve an A+++++++

I ORDERED THE SEQUEL BEFORE I FINISHED THE FIRST BOOK AND WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. THE WRITER CONTINUED TO GIVE THE CHARACTERS INTERESTING LIVES WITHOUT OVERKILL. I HOPE FOR BOOK THREE.

I got so involved in this series and was disappointed that the third one has not come out in kindle. Otherwise the first two books were great.
One of the best historical novels I have read. The stories of women's suffrage, their inferior position in 19th century England, and the tragic plight of coal miners are riveting themes. Could not put my down until I finished.
Enjoyable, best to read Jane Sanderson's, Netherwood first to continue the story in Ravenscliffe.
This book, which is one of a trilogy by the same author is so good I didn't want it to end.
Perhaps there was another book that set forth the characters of the people in this book that I should have read before. At any rate, the characters in this book were shallow to the point that if I were not a compulsive reader who has to finish a book once started, I would have laid this book down and felt no loss for not having finishing it.
