I'm teaching out of this text for the first time this semester.Positives:
- It's cheap (free in pdf form)
- Good examples that are more fully worked out than most texts so students can follow the examples easily
- Problems at the end of each section are at an appropriate level - challenging for students, but still do-able.
- Calc 2 only, so the book is more easily carried than most texts
Negatives:
- There are a lot of typos - I have been making a list and sending them to the author who is fixing them as part of prep for the next edition
- There are a few strange choices made about arrangement of material - L'Hopital's rule is in the middle of the techniques of integration
- Not as much motivation is given as is given by a typical Calculus book. This is fine as I can motivate subjects in lecture, but maybe an issue for a student trying to learn on their own.
Overall, so far I'm thrilled with how the class is going and will continue using this series in the future.
