A well-paced romance that flips the "strong man/weak woman" trope on its head, this debut book from author Kara Braden is a refreshing, fun read. Ian and Cecily are an unlikely pair who are thrown together while each is dealing with some complicated life issues. Braden treats these issues that the characters have with respect, and uses them to add complex layers in the relationship that builds between Cecily and Ian. Both characters' back stories are integrated into their decisions and actions and how they treat each other throughout the story as their romance develops, making Cecily and Ian come alive to the reader with depth and believability. The settings (especially the cabin and day-to-day life in remote Canada) are described as to firmly ground the scene for this unlikely romance in the wilderness.I enjoyed the romantic buildup between Ian and Cecily because, as I mentioned before, these characters are dealing with serious issues and I would not expect them to just jump right into bed. That said, once they DO get together, the sparks fly! (And bonus points for safe sex made super-sexy!)
Braden portrays the buildup to romance and the relationship between Ian and Cecily in such a way that I believed that these two characters created a foundation for a real, lasting relationship--one that I'd like to read about more, and that's not something that I often think at the end of a story. I honestly stayed up WAY past my bedtime reading this novel, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next title from this author. A thoroughly enjoyable read!

The Longest Night Kara Braden 9781402291852 Books Reviews
I enjoyed this debut novel. I downloaded the Audible narration for an extra three dollars and listened to the story while working out. It's a solid, sexy romance novel in an interesting setting. The characters are enjoyable, especially the heroine. However, I gave the book an extra star in this review in appreciation for the publisher, who allowed the author to leave the fan fiction from which the story originated online.
This book was very hard to put down. The story seemed real life. Great content and great readiing. I recommend this book.
It is so refreshing to read a romance where where the guy doesn't feel the need to push his interest when he gets back off vibes. Patience, honesty and consent are very sexy. I started this book intending to read for an hour over my morning cuppa and didn't stop until I got to the end.
I really like the idea of both characters being survivors. Many times stories have characters play games or deny feelings etc. They seemed to both sense an attraction and continued to build on that. It was a little slow at times but then again they are in a cabin in Canada, how could things not be slow... I reccomend it.
Took a bit to get into this book, but once I was there it worked. Smart male character who does not solve problems with force? Yes. Sexually mature, intelligent female character? Yes. PTSD which is an ongoing thing which does not magically vanish? Yes. Open communication in a relationship? Yes.
It's got flaws but far fewer of them than most romance books, and they're definitely not the same flaws as your average busty bodice ripper.
What I love most about this book is the main character, Cecily. Such a well-drawn character, with plenty of layers. A strong person with challenges to meet, but also feminine and vulnerable. I was rooting for her from start to finish. I was slightly less enthralled with the male lead, Ian--I wanted him to make a few more missteps and I wasn't as rooted in his point of view--but he is still an intriguing character and I'm curious where their relationship will go from here! Also, I *adored* the supporting character of Mags! I would happily read a novel focused on her.
This is a heartwarming, engrossing and well written, well paced love story. Ian and Cecily initially seem to be two unlikely lovers. Both are very troubled individuals. Ms. Braden has created two adult characters that you want to continue to get to know even better. A steamy read with increasing sexual tension. The secondary characters are also well developed. Treat yourself, you won't be sorry you bought this book. TRUST ME! I am looking forward to the next book from this author ( The Deepest Night). I hope that Ms. Braden will consider a novella to up date us on how these two are doing after moving to Manhattan
